My Wife Very Likely Saved My Life Yesterday

For those of you who know someone with type 2 Diabetes please pay attention to this true story of what happened to me yesterday afternoon. We have a small Post Office about 1/2 mile from our home and I decided to take a couple of large envelopes of pictures I had to get rates on and to get them sent out. I went into the PO with no line at all and the employee lady took care of the envelopes. When I turned to leave the counter I realized I felt a bit ‘odd’, a little light headed a bit weak. I walked 15 feet to my car got in, strapped in and backed out of the parking spot. I had been planning on going another 1/3 of a mile to our local Dollar General and get some diet Pepsi’s as we were out at home and grocery day wasn’t until today. By the time I put the car into drive I finally realized that I was in trouble.

I called my wife to tell her that I was headed home and that something was wrong so when I pulled into the carport she has there waiting for me. I opened the car door but stayed in the seat for about 3–5 minutes as I felt I was to weak to stand up. My wife went into the kitchen and got a cold bottle of Orange Crush for me to down a lot of. The reason for the Orange Crush is that it is ‘full’ sugar, my diet Pepsi’s doesn’t have that sugar. My wife recognized that it was a blood sugar issue, I have major heart issues so I/she/we need to be correct what we are trying to fix as fixing one incorrectly could mess up the other. For me, I start to get a bit weak and a bit shaky at about 95, get below 90 and I get very weak. While I was drinking the Crush my Lady poked my finger to get a little blood, even after the soda it said 70. If I had stood up or went to the Dollar General, I would have went out, but would I have awaken, ever?

My wife being there for me, recognizing the issue, acting fast to get me sugar, I believe she saved my life yesterday. Back in September of 2011 while I was in Georgia I had an issue like this, where my blood sugar tanked and I blacked out when I stood up. Once the ambulance brought me to the hospital the ER Doctors later told me I would have been dead in another five minutes. So do I honestly believe that Kathy saved my life yesterday, yes I do.
